KAHI 'UHANE KIHEI PUA

- "A place where the spirit partially controls the individual
and grants grace, animation, strength and endurance."

"KAHI 'UHANE KIHEI PUA" - A place where the spirit partially controls the individual and grants grace, animation, strength and endurance. Our space is a dance studio (referred to as halau by some) where Hula, Tahitian, Polynesian, and other island dances, songs and music are taught. Musical instruments such as the Ukulele, Guitar, Toere (Tahitian Drumming), Pahu, and Fa'atete are taught.

Angelita Eller has been teaching in Santa Barbara for the past 27 years. She has studied with several kumu (master teachers) from Hawaii and Tahiti. Through the various kumu she has learned different styles which she shares with her students. She, along with her students , is continuously learning from others who are well versed with the culture. She is very involved with each student as she does all the teaching. Each class is limited to a maximum of 25 students per attendance in order to have a close understanding and working relationship between student and instructor. Events are always created so that all students get to work and know each other. The prerequisites for class are the following: humor, consideration, acceptance, open mind, and the willingness to share, pass down, and guide those who have asked for assistance.

We started 27 years ago. We were one of the first cultural dance classes established with the Santa Barbara Recreation.

We are one of the founders of the original Santa Barbara Outrigger Canoe Club. Through the luaus we put on, we purchased the first canoe for the Outrigger Canoe Club.

We were greatly responsible for the success of HOKULEA'S 1995 visit to Santa Barbara.

20 years ago responsible for bringing the first "Hawaiian Revue" to Southern California. We brought George Naope ( a founder of the Merrie Monarch and one of the most respected sources of the hula) and his halau (30 students) to the Lobero Theatre. George Naope's halau was the first halau to bring a week long of Hawaiian experience to Southern California and North of Santa Barbara.

From 20 years ago to present have been bringing master teachers to Santa Barbara and opened workshops to the public- Master teachers from Hawaii, Tahiti, Moorea, and other Polynesian islands.

With enough planning able to bring students to the islands to experience Master Teachers in their own element (Hawaii as well as Tahiti)
